Programme in
Quantity Surveyor
The CQSGL offers a Professional Levels programme for Quantity Surveying practitioners for being eligible to sit for the Professional Levels exams conducted by IQSSL which is one of the paths to become a Chartered Quantity Surveyor.
Aim and Objectives of the Programme
The rationale of the course is to produce professionals with knowledge, skills, and wisdom to face challenges positively and solve problems successfully in their professional domain, while taking advantage of new opportunities, both in a local and global context.
The aims of the course are to enrich the ability of effectively managing the financial resources in a construction project and ensuring the management of the procurement process to facilitate efficient deployment of resources, enabling a smooth project delivery.
The objectives of the programme are:
- Develop a sound knowledge on technological aspects of a construction project, inter alia, to enhance the specific knowledge and skills required for Quantity Surveying practice
- Understand the structure of the construction industry and its stake holders at various levels in order to develop the knowledge in organization and management of the construction process
- Provide the required knowledge in economic, managerial and legal principles for effective financial control and contract administration
- Develop intellectual, analytical, and critical skills
- Develop logical thinking and the ability of transformation of elements of industry practice to theoretical framework
- Provide a sound basis for career progression
- Promote ethical conduct and professional integrity.
Course Structure
Total course duration of Professional Levels Programme is three years (part-time) consisting of Level I, Level II, and Level III. Lectures are conducting Saturdays and Sundays, Saturdays afternoon and Sundays full day.
On the successful completion of Professional Level III, the students are eligible for Technical membership of IQSSL. Subsequently, after maintaining and due completion of Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) diary for three years, students are eligible to appear for APC exams to become an Associate Member of IQSSL and successful candidates thus becoming Chartered Quantity Surveyors.

Professional Levels Programme (PLP) candidates follow the programme while engaged in Approved Employment that complements their learning. They will follow the lecture programme and engage in directed, self and group learning by means of assignments, presentations, project study, research, and practice experience. The completion of qualification requires 120 Credits.
A credit in Professional Levels Programme is defined as follows.
- The prior learning and engagement in approved employment shall ensure the gaining ability of credit values through the specified direct and indirect contact hours as defined below.
- Ten (10) hours of lectures with associated learning including directed study.
- Four (4) weeks of Quantity Surveying practice experience including practice record and assessment.
- Appropriate task and workload for Project Study modules. One Project Study task is assigned 1.5 Credits.
- The supervised research project including Fifteen (15) hours of research methodology lectures and guided independent research study is assigned 4.5 credits.
